The Knesset held a festive inaugural debate in honor of the opening of the fourth session of the 18th Knesset, with the President on hand.

Speaker Reuven Rivlin opened the session by saying : ”The social agenda has been neglected in favor of the addiction to superficial arguing of the various security policy issues on the agenda , The social protest has exposed the Knesset, the demand for a new social agenda did not come from the Knesset and it is doubtful if the voice of the protest has a representative in the House. What is the surprise then that the Knesset has been replaced with Rothschild Ave ?”
Rivlin turned to the leaders of the protest who were present in the public gallery and said ”The change will start here and only from here. Only by the joint clasping of hands of the Nation and the Knesset and by the true self-examination of the large parties can we promise a new social order”.

Rivlin went on by saying: ”When there is a feeling that the contract between the Knesset and the public has been breached, the public is not exempt from asking itself what its part in it is. Did it choose its representatives thoroughly? Was its vote cast for a party with a clear agenda? Rivlin added that the Israeli public must remember that ”without large and strong parties that have the power to determine a new daily agenda there will be no new agenda”.
