The Knesset Plenum passes second and third reading of bill to reduce the deficit and change the tax burden
Publicized: August 6, 2012 Opposition leader, Knesset Member Shaul Mofaz (Kadima): ”Prime Minister, you chose to take money from somewhere. There are no more places from which to milk the middle class. You scattered un-covered checks. You promised `equal share of the burden`. Mr. Prime Minister, you are eating at the expense of the bleeding masses. The Prime Minister is emptying the public’s coffers.” MK Zahava Gal-On: I wish to say to the Finance Minister, I trust neither you nor God. You created a program which will eliminate the middle class. Many things could have been done, but you choose not to hurt the owners of capital. You are running a cruel economic policy.” MK Avishai Braverman: ”Mr. Finance Minister, I do not trust you. Mr. Prime Minister, your ideology lowered our relationship with the U.S. to the bottom step of the ladder. This is about an ideological dispute.” MK Dov Hanin: ”Mr. Prime Minister, you are presenting the Greek model. For three years you said that the situation was wonderful and in reality you dug a great pit of deficit. Today you are suggesting to the public that you close that pit by jumping over it. But reality will change of its own accord and will choose social justice.” MK Roni Bar-On: “The two-year budget is the mother of all mistakes. We warned that it is not legally correct to take the away the Knesset’s control capability. Under the two-year budget’s veneer lies economic divergence. The economic assumptions were inaccurate. I had warned that one cannot evaluate the collection of 2012 taxes in 2010.” In the bill’s second and third reading 28 MKs supported the bill with 16 opposed. The bill will enter the State of Israel’s book of laws. © Copyright 2013, all rights reserved to the State of Israel or to third parties as detailed in this link.
