The proposed amendment to Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty on equality between genders has become a motion for the agenda
Publicized: June 20, 2012 A preliminary bill by MK Marina Solodkin (Kadima), changed to a motion for the agenda, comes to state explicitly in the Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty the prohibition on the infringement of equality between women and men in the public sphere, in the military, in work and in family. MK Solodkin said she agreed to make the bill a motion for the agenda, to be discussed in the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee. 17 Knesset members supported turning the bill into a motion for the agenda, none opposed. The explanatory notes to the bill stated that ”the Zionist movement and Zionist notion arose on the basis of gender equality and was one of its pioneers at the time. Indeed for 63 years it was clear that women`s rights equal those of the man at least in the public domain. Now the wind has changed and there are unacceptable phenomena that exclude women from the public arena - separate lines for women and men, bus lines separating seats for men and women, women prohibited from going on the same side of a walkway as men, women cannot read eulogies, and the lack of democratic right to vote for women in ultra-Orthodox areas.” © Copyright 2013, all rights reserved to the State of Israel or to third parties as detailed in this link.
